Medical Research Center of Lambaréné

Medical research Center of Lambaréné (CERMEL) sprung from the Medical Research Unit of the Albert Schweitzer Hospital in 2012. Today, CERMEL is a leading fullyfledged independent GCP-compliant clinical research center in Africa.

The center focuses on developing new antiparasitic agents via clinical trials and epidemiological studies on malaria, helminth infections, tuberculosis, and other infectious diseases.

Academically, CERMEL has a long-standing collaboration in Germany with the Institute of Tropical Medicine of the University of Tbingen and Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine, but also with the University of Leiden and AMC in The Netherlands.

Locally the center collaborates with the University of sciences and technology in Franceville and that of Medicine in Libreville both in Gabon.

Masters, Ph.D., and MD students from those Universities are hosted at CERMEL for their thesis degrees on biomedical sciences, epidemiology and medicine.
